With your help we have made a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of animals.
A regular push to spay local cats and dogs started appx a decade ago.
A sadly now deceased friend suggested to Lucy she invited Animal Spay Neuter International to the area. A huge tractor garage 3 villages away was hired and the team came from Romania.
The first time only 70 dogs were neutered but the chief vet loved the place and the following spring we had another session thus a spayathon was created in the area. (A Spayathon is an intensive, high-volume event focused on providing free or low-cost spaying and neutering services for dogs and cats)
In conjunction with this, a seminar where local vets were invited to watch the surgery and learn the techniques involved in speed spaying. However better facilities were needed and an amazing Bulgarian lady came on board and worked miracles finding them.
The rest is history. ASNI (Animal Spay Neuter International) now comes to Sliven twice per year and spays 220 cats and dogs each time. In between we neuter an average of 4 cats and dogs per week 51 weeks of the year.
As we always wanted, the spayathons are now managed and run by mostly Bulgarians. LIFE usually takes around 25 cats and dogs from other rescues as well as local villages.
